A family adopts seven siblings separated in foster care

Seven

Hello Reader,

Most of us in the foster care system always hear about how a set of siblings getting separated from one another, but we rarely hear how a set of sibling’s getting reunited. I came by the story online and I thought it’ll be a pretty cool story to blog about. The couple always knew that they wanted to adopt a kid, but not seven at once. The couple heard about the separation on Thanksgiving day, and after they heard about the kids’ story they turned to each other and said: “Why not”. We as a community (Foster Care System) need to promote more stories like this because the foster care system could use some more positivity. I could also say the foster care system could use more people that are willing to accept seven siblings, but of course, that’s going to take time. Continue to spread the positivity and don’t give up fighting for what’s right. If you want to read more about this story the link is: Family Adopts Seven Siblings

Chicago Bill

Chicgo

Hello Reader,

So Chicago just proposed the new bill No Plan No Diploma. I look at the bill as another barrier for foster youth and other youth that live in the area because basically what the city of Chicago is saying if you don’t have a post-secondary plan after high school then you can’t get your diploma that you worked 4 years for. I feel that the bill will put more of a burden on the youth in the area because of the other requirements that Chicago has. For example, if I wanted to graduate from a high school in Chicago right now I would have to go to school for four years, of course, but then I will also have to do 40 hours of volunteer work and take the additional science courses in order to graduate. I don’t support the bill because I don’t think someone should be forced to enter the job market or join the military or even go to college. I think the government is going a little too far with trying to control people’s life’s and they should let that decision be the high school grads. Running For Public Office

Hello Reader,

So I was doing my everyday activities like planning my weekend, reading the news, and so on when I read about how they were going to recall Major Tom Burret because of some things he’s done in an office. I thought to myself and said I know I would do good by my community if I was in office. Side note: I hate when I think about things like this because the thought won’t go away until I execute it. To tell you guys the truth I’m thinking about running for office, not now but soon. If I fail then at least I tried, but if I win then I would be happy because I know my community has a good leader. “Isaiah you doing too much” I heard that expression about a million times and maybe I am, but I’m doing what I want to do. I have a long journey ahead of me if I want to achieve my goals. Sometimes I wish that people would see things the way I do. To all my readers keep your support system strong because it hard going through life without it and I know this because I’m doing it. For a long time, I thought it was me but the reason why I have a hard time building up a support system is because of the people I talk to. Some people just not on the same level as you mentally. Some people only wanted to find out what I was doing for myself or even talking to me because it was politically correct. I’m not mad though because I can’t fix society. A friend of mine who I met in D.C said to me “Either people are going to support you or they not, so don’t let them issues work you up”. After she told me that I actually felt better because it was the truth. I wrote that last piece because I wanted to give you guys some insight in my life and I know it’s a little off topic about the foster care system but I just thought I’ll put it out there. I’m not going to let my personal problems interfere with me trying to connect the foster care system using social media. Have a good weekend.

Motivation

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hello Reader,

Meet Les Bown who’s one of my motivators. Les Brown has been in my life for about 2 years now helping me stay on course to becoming the best I could be. Les Brown is a keynote speaker and a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives. Like much of the African American community, Les Brown had a rough beginning. He and his twin brother were born inside an abandoned building and shortly after that was given up for adoption, so he’s also a former foster youth. While in grade school he was label as “Mentally Retarded” but despite the low self-esteem and the confidence loss he learned how to reach his full potential with the encouragement of his mother and assistance of a helpful teacher in high school. So what does he do exactly? To get straight to the point I’m gonna say that Les Brown energies people to meet the challenges of the world around them. Below I attached a link to one of my favorite videos by Les Brown and his bio just in case you want to read more about him. I know your mind is curious. Negative PeopleLes Brown Bio

Foster Faces Update #1

Hello Reader,

So I don’t know if you guys been on Foster Faces the past couple days but there have been some changes to how the website look and operate. For example, the website is much faster and operating more effectively. Another big change to the website is instead of signing in the old fashion way with just hitting the login button, now users can sign in using Facebook. Someone came to me with a question and asked why when they hit the Facebook sign in it say’s Foster fces will receive…..and that’s because when I did my application with Facebook I couldn’t use the word faces because of their trademark. I could file for a name repeal but why go through so much problem when the company isn’t going to approve it anyway. For the people that have logged on Foster Faces, you might have seen a chat box in the corner of your screen which is a new feature that’s going to be up and running in the next couple of days. I’m just having some technical difficulties at the moment. Don’t worry guys, I’m still working on putting the scholarship board up so other foster youth could find resources for school, among some other things. Let me say that some of the biggest change is coming to Foster Faces app though. The app is going to have a new look and the features I mentioned above, so be on the lookout. Again if you have some suggestion or concerns just get in contact with me.
